Did you know that GMS has been awarded a GEAR UP MS grant?

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate

Programs) is funded primarily through the U.S. Dept. of Education.

In MS, it is a collaborative effort of the MS Institutions of Higher

Learning (IHL), MDE, MS State Board of Community & Junior

Colleges and various organizations.

GSD is one of 20 districts that has received a grant for the second

cohort beginning in 2008-2009 with our 7th grade class.  This

encompasses 17 counties, 51 middle schools, and 41 high schools

for the next six years until this class graduates in 2014.

These monies are to be used to provide additional resources so that

all of our 7th grade students will be prepared to enter an under-

graduate program at a MS public or private university.
